Our Story

Roberts of Dalkey opened its doors for the first time back in November of 2011 with a vision of pioneering the way in which seafood was retailed and wholesaled, and to work on increasing the consumption of seafood across Ireland. Bigs plans!!


Where did the idea come from ?

As a regular consumer of seafood I notice the gap which existed within my own local market and after a conversation with my father, his financial backing and encouragement I started the journey. With no knowledge of the industry I spend 2 days a week for a year working in Nicky’s Plaice on Howth’s West Pier. It was here that I gained the expertise required to fillet round and flat fish and gained vast experience in the retailing of seafood to the public. A huge thank you Martin, you champion.


As time passed, opportunities presented themselves. Roberts of Dalkey opened its 2nd store in Delgany mid 2012.

November 2014 saw the opening of our seafood counter, a concession at Avoca, Kilmacanogue.

November 2015 saw the opening of our seafood counter in Ballinteer.

In early 2015 Roberts Wholesale Seafoods Limited was setup to handle the wholesale side of the business.

Our focus for the future is on the development of a Seafood Centre of Excellence incorporating a seafood processing unit, separate area for development of a luxury seafood brand for RTE and RTC markets while incorporating a seafood cookery school.

Roberts of Dalkey has reached the last 24 in the national final of Irelands Best Young Entrepreneur competition. #IBYE Winner to be announced on the 6th of December.
